Staff will respond within two business days. Thank you for your patience.

Please note that patrons and researchers who are not Wisconsin taxpayers may have fees associated with research requests, and that our local patrons take priority.

Research & Scanning Requests

LPL staff will always do their best to accomodate the unique needs and requests from researchers and patrons and we encourage you to reach out to address how much time your research request may take.

If you would like to request obitiuary scans, please follow our instructions on our Genealogy Database Requests page.

As much as possible, we encourage you to visit us in-person to review collection materials and decide which materials you would like scanned or printed. However, we understand this is not always possible.

In times when a patron cannot visit in-peron, LPL staff will work with a patron to create an overview of available resources related to their research question(s). After that initial overview, LPL staff can conduct up to two hours of time reviewing and/or scanning resources for patrons. The corresponding costs are listed below.

Wisconsin Residents$0.10/scan

Out-of-State Residents: $10.00/30 minutes of time + $0.10/scan (up to 2 hours)

Receiving Scans

If it is possible to send scans via email, we will do so (usually this is under 5 scans).

For 5+ digital scans, we typically share using Google Drive. Other options are available if requested by the patron, as long as they are free to the La Crosse Public Library to use.

File names will include citation information, or staff will list this in their email response.

Receiving Paper Copies in Mail

LPL staff can send paper copies using the U.S. Postal Service as requested. If you prefer this, please use the following instructions:

    • If you have a really big order (over 50), then providing us with a self-addressed, stamped priority mail envelope is probably your cheapest option. Staff will always label prints with citation information.
