Abstract
Papers of a former La Crosse, Wis. city business owner Sylvester E. Strittmater. Strittmater, along with Frank E. Eustice, owned Gateway Die & Tool Co. from 1944 to approximately 1949. The papers include personal membership cards to various organizations and sportsmen's licenses, and two financial volumes of his Gateway Die & Tool Co. The collection does not contain any more biographical or personal material.

Historical Note

A former La Crosse, Wis. city business owner Sylvester E. Strittmater, along with Frank E. Eustice, owned and operated Gateway Die & Tool Co. from 1944 to approximately 1949. This business was located at 332 Copeland Ave. on the north side of La Crosse. Strittmater then worked as a die maker and foreman for the Trane Co. from approximately 1950 to his retirement in about 1975. He died in 2000.

Scope and Contents

The only personal information about Sylvester E. Strittmater is a collection of membership cards which illustrate his interest in hunting and other organizations. Items represented (1964-1972) are the National Rifle Association, Holmen Shooters Club, Mississippi River Rates, Knight of Columbus, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE).

Gateway Die & Tool Company materials (1944-1949) include a folder of ephemera which includes a sample of letterhead and Sylvester Strittmater's business cards. There are also two financial volumes of the company; one of a day-book format, 1944, and the other covering invoices 1945-1949.
