Located northwest of Onalaska, the Asbury Cemetery was also known as the Brice Prairie Cemetery. The Brice family came from Walworth County, Wisconsin, to settle on this prairie in 1855. Then it was home to many Winnebago (Ho-Chunk) peoples. The area became known as Brice Prairie, named for Alexander & Lucy (Wilbur) Brice, Yankee pioneers originally from Connecticut and Vermont.

Lucy died in 1865 and her husband Alexander in 1874. Both were buried near their homestead in what was called the Brice Prairie Cemetery and was later named Asbury Cemetery. The Lytle family is also buried here.  This cemetery was officially organized in 1863 and was later associated with the Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church of Onalaska.
