- Abstract
- Douglas Connell, a La Crosse, Wis., native, is a local historian and writer for the La Crosse Tribune. He has written numerous books on La Crosse area history. The collection includes 311 images of the construction of the new bridge over the Mississippi River at La Crosse, Wis., from March 2003 to November 2004. The slides are arranged chronologically in a binder. Each slide is labeled by Connell with a brief description and the date and time the image was taken.

Biographical Note
Douglas Connell, a La Crosse, Wis., native, is a local historian and writer for the La Crosse Tribune. He has written several books on La Crosse area history, such as True Tales of La Crosse: Unusual Stories from Old Newspapers of La Crosse, Wisconsin; La Crosse Time Trip; and co-authored In Light and Shadow: A Pictorial Recollection of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Connell also did a lot of research for the MacMillan family history book.
Connell began researching the history of his hometown in 1985 and began when doing family history. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a degree in elementary education. The Preservation Alliance of La Crosse honored Connell with an award for educating the public about the city’s history.
Scope and Contents
The collection includes 311 images of the construction of the new bridge over the Mississippi River at La Crosse, Wis., from March 2003 to November 2004. The slides are arranged chronologically in a binder. Each slide is labeled by Connell with a brief description and the date and time the image was taken.
A photographic agreement between Douglas Connell and the La Crosse Public Library is included with the collection.
